♦ The Challenge ♦

As part of its manufacturing operation the Perfection Floor Tile uses a plastic extrusion process. It realised that the loss of virgin plastic from this process was incurring substantial costs. These costs were arising from the high levels of virgin material required for production and from the cost of disposing of the plastic waste. To address both these aspects the company decided to seek a method of recovering the waste plastic for recycling by injecting it back into the manufacturing process.

The Carbon Trust

The plastic industries production methods have always involved a high usage of electricity in the production of finished material, electricity being the main source of power. As a result, Perfection took the decision to work with the Europes's "Carbon Trust Initiative." The scheme provides aid to help companies reduce their carbon footprint.

Perfection Floor Tile two years ago, purchased a new generator which uses waste oils as a fuel source (these waste oils would otherwise be sent to land fill.) This has enabled Perfection to both, generate enough electricity to fuel most production requirements.

As a result, Perfection Floor Tile as a company, reduced its energy costs significantly by 55%, providing very obvious benefits to both the environment and Perfection Floor Tile.   more...
